Chiangus is a composite cattle breed developed by crossing full-blooded Chianina with registered Angus. The result is a large, black animal that combines the lean meat and growth rate of Chianina with the hardiness and meat quality of Angus. Chiangus cattle are known for their strong growth, carcass quality, and suitability for crossbreeding, often producing leaner meat with less waste.

Chiford is a composite breed created by crossing Chianina with Hereford cattle. This breed combines the lean meat production and growth rate of Chianina with the good temperament and maternal qualities of Hereford. Chiford cattle can range in color from pale fawn or cream to dark red, with variations from the typical Hereford red and white pattern to solid red. Chianina are also used to create other composite breeds like Chiangus and Chimaine.
The Chibrah is an Australian cattle breed resulting from crossbreeding Chianina and Brahman cattle. Recognized by the Australian Chibrah Herd Book, these cattle can be registered with a genetic composition ranging from 25% to 75% of either breed. Chibrah cattle combine the rapid growth and size of Chianina with the heat tolerance and disease resistance of Brahman cattle, making them well-suited for Australia's tropical and subtropical regions.
Crossbreeding with Chianina cattle offers a strategic approach to rapidly enhance beef herd productivity and meat quality. This practice leverages hybrid vigour, resulting in offspring that often surpass the average performance of their parents in traits like growth rate, fertility, and disease resistance. Utilising Chianina bulls with smaller, efficient cows can produce calves that grow rapidly and reach market weight efficiently, optimising feed costs and enhancing profitability.
