ABOUT

ANABIC - Associazione Nazionale Allevatori Bovini
Italiani da Carne

The Association

Founded in 1961 and legally recognized in 1966, the National Association of Italian Beef-Cattle Breeders (ANABIC) was established to promote and implement all types of initiatives aimed toward improving, developing and spreading the autochthonous Italian cattle breeds: Marchigiana, Chianina, Romagnola, Maremmana, and Podolica. ANABIC, which came out by merging the previously existing individual National Breed Associations, has taken on their responsibilities as far as selection is concerned and has set up a single National Herd Book for Italian beef-cattle breeds. In addition to its main activity focusing on genetic improvement, the Association also carries out numerous promotional initiatives, publishes and distributes trade journals, collaborates with competent government bodies and university-level institutes on research and test programs, and offers technical assistance to international operators involved in raising the Italian breeds.

ANABIC headquarters are located in S.Martino in Colle, a town situated in the peaceful Umbrian countryside just 8 kilometres away from the city of Perugia.

Chianina Characteristics

The Chianina breed which was used in the past to work in the fields, has been selected for beef production for a number of years now.

This specialization can clearly be seen through their somatic structure. Muscle development is very pronounced in every part of the body, particularly the rear, which has numerous highly-prized cuts.

The trunk has a cylindrical shape and is well developed in width, length and depth. The skeletal structure is solid and light, the dewlap is not very big and the skin is quite fine. All of this means a very high beef yield. This outstanding structure is accompanied by the other valuable traits such as ease of calving, viability of the calves, outstanding maternal capability and early maturation.
